M&S: Shakespeare 400

Inspiration: 400 Anniversary of Shakespeare’s death

Denim is once again the trending fabric of S/S 2016 and as a sustainable 100% cotton material has a long history and tradition which dates back to the 17th century.

In styling the denim products, I wanted to create a display for male customers creating a contemporary look mixed with the presence of Shakespeare’s characters and the versatility and long tradition of denim as a fashion material.

I have chosen three male characters from Shakespeare’s plays: Hamlet, King Lear and The Merchant of Venice. In styling the denim products, I wanted to create a display for male customers of M&S, creating a contemporary look mixed with the presence of Shakespeare’s characters and the versatility and long tradition of denim as a fashion material.

Making the small accessories were taking forever ... I tried to make them with great precision so the quality would take over the quantity. I developed an attachment to those accessories more than towards the Shakespearian characters. Perhaps they carry too much drama in their life ... None of them was in any way successful or found happiness in the simplicity of life. All three of them are too complicated to feel compassion towards them.
