Inspiration: Endurance by Alfred Lansing

Cold places fascinate me, they are beautiful and dangerous at the same time. I kept this set quite simple as I wanted to create the feeling of extreme cold and isolation, the feeling of...‘what would it be like to be trapped in this place'.

I have always been drawn towards cold places. The story of the great leader Ernest Shackleton was my inspiration. Admire brave people that act altruistically. I believe Endurance is a book every man and woman should read. Those who should read it particularly are those that aspire to be leaders or already are in a position of supervision. Inspired by the outstanding leadership by E. Shackelton would make exceptional leaders, managers and directors who care about their people so much that people like Simon Simek would be very proud to talk about.

I kept it simple and minimalistic as I wanted to create the feeling of minimalism and loneliness while abandoned at the end of the world. The accessories were built mainly with cardboard and paper, except the floor, which is a bubble wrap foil, turned upside down made an impression of frozen water. I used a similar technique making the iceberg and the ship. Designing my version of the book cover (with the male figures) helped me to create an impression, that part of the Shackleton crew just left the sinking ship. Nothing is kept in proportion to each other, the props have more symbolic meaning. I was lucky to partly recreate the display in MRCB Paints & Papers store in Dublin 8.
