Found object: Fashion accessories

Inspiration: Old Phone Books

Found old phone books were the inspiration for this model’s accessories. I wanted to show a thrifty creative young woman, who used her imagination to make this outfit for herself, out of what was basically rubbish. A modern Cinderella with a pro-active attitude.

Yellow Pages was my found object. Well, I haven't found it anywhere ... I knew it was in one of the drawers in the cabinet in the hall of the building I lived in ... So, I should call it 'an object I looked for rather than 'found object'.

At first, I tried to construct a long skirt but it was taking too much weight. There was no way it would hold on around the mannequin waist. During the creative process, I decided to design a paper wig with an afro style, rather than use a ready to wear wig ... Found strings of nylon thread lying on the floor and made earrings out of them ... Felt the character lacks some accessories and made three sets of paper necklaces ...

It was a project I most enjoyed ... from the very start I did not have an idea of the closing result. I let the creative journey take me on as long as it lasted ...
