Homeware: Bed Linen
Inspiration: The Sleeping Gypsy by Henri Rousseau
To me, the painting of the Sleeping Gypsy is about dreaming, about the peaceful moments during our sleep when we feel very safe and cosy ... in between the two worlds of wakefulness and sleep. I chose bed linen as the product to emphasise the idea of shelter and protection. A place where nothing wrong will happen to us.

At first, I thought the painting is too complex to replicate ... But I was challenged to try it. The technic of reproducing any image to either a larger or smaller scale is called grid painting.
I was drawn by the calmness radiating from it and all the questions it arises. Is it a dream? Why the gipsy girl is sleeping in the desert? If it is a desert why is there a lake? Where is it then? ... Is she aware of the lion? Is he just smelling her or will he attack her? Have they just met or do they travel together? Overall I was very content with my work. Sadly, the painting was too big to keep and eventually I had to get rid of it ...
It was an exciting and enjoyable process of analysing the layout of the painting, the painter himself and his creative journey. Personally, it was a great lesson of learning how to be patient. Very therapeutic and worth waiting for. Great work on my psychic growth in the company of the giant painting that had to be well finished.
